Playlist Love: Part 2

Dj KillaKa5 & Dj X Rayted (MIA 2 SA) - Valentine's Edition (available to download starting today! It's not about love at all, it's just for you and the significant other to dance to. download here: http://soundcloud.com/sa2mia/vday)

Alex Gaudino - I'm In Love (wasn't this everyone's nye playlist?)

Angel - Akon & David Guetta (the 1st song i heard on nye)

Nothing But Love For You - Axwell (another nye 2011 playlist song)

Cada Vez (Malibu Breeze Remix)- Stereo Palma (This is one of my favorite songs!!! I feel like I'm at the beach, dancing in my bathing suit, wearing white, enjoying the sunset, and having a great time with everyone I love - it's just a sexy beach song "cada vez te veoooooo")

Steal His Look: Valentine's Day

I'm not an expert in Men's Fashion - therefore I had no idea where to start on How I Would Want my Man to Wear on our V-Day. So I started to look-up the most fashionable men (according to me) such as: Johnny Depp, Derek Blasberg, Scott Schuman aka The Sartorialist, Scott Disick, Jay-Z, Justin Timberlake and go through the pages of VMan, GQ, Banana Republic, Urban Outfitters, and Calvin Klein.

Finally, I ended up with these 4 pictures. Hey! I'm picky what can I say??
We have Tom Ford in Tom Ford - dapper as usual and my choice for formal wear. Kanye West looking cool as James Dean and rocking the bowtie (I loveeeeeee bowties for men). The other 2 men are pictures I collected from The Style Blogger & Men in This Town - I feel like this is the new preppy -  retro preppy  - the polo shirt is slightly oversized, the belt is tied in a knot, and he is wearing Ray-Bans. And the last gentleman, is more of a natural man. He is dressed (and his hair is combed) just like his mama taught him to.

Playlist Love: Part 1

Alanis Morissette - Head Over Feet (Once you've had your heart broken - writing just comes naturally)

Goo Goo Dolls - Iris (My future Wedding Song)

Crazy - Seal (I really like the remixed version)

If I Ain't Got You - Alicia Keys (All her songs are amazing! That voice! If you don't have it, you should buy The Diary album)

Love Story - Taylor Swift (Sorry! I had to! She's a hopeless romantic and she knows what she's talking about - a lot of public breakups!)

The Look of Love

I'm that friend that hates your boyfriend, makes barfing sounds when you mention love, and repeatedly asks you "are you sure you want to marry him?" .... However, deep down inside  I'm a hopeless romantic who's probably just a teeeany tiiiiiny jealous of that amazing relationship you have - specially when you can't have dinner with me on February 14th! GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR! I mean it's also called "Dia de la Amistad" which means Friendship Day - so why do you have to be with your boyfriend or girlfriend??? hmmm??? - Fine! WHATEVER! Go with him!

Anywaysss.....In commemoration of V-day I have decided to dedicate as much posts till Feb 14th for this holiday. Today, I have decided to help you out on What to Wear: Women's Edition

My recommendations:
  • Leave the granny panties at home.
  • Try to wear RED (it reminds boys of sex!)
  • Try to change it up a little - vamp it up! It's V-day and you're already getting laid, so try something new like RED lipstick ;) or a bare back dress.
  • and Leave home with a sexyyy confidence to knock 'em all dead!

When I saw you I fell in love, and you smiled because you knew.- William Shakespeare

New Collection: Bar III

Being a fashion intern has its perks, one of them being a helping hand for special events. Last week, the team and I basically constructed and deconstructed the press preview for the new Macy's label, Bar III at the amazing New Museum. I had noticed the brand at the showroom but had no idea what it really was till the day of the event. It is a  young, playful, and effervescent collection and I'm absolutely sure they will prosper. Although I hate even walking in Macy's NY, perhaps I can take advantage of my 11% Passport discount ;)

The cool thing about Bar III is the fact that their Spring and Summer 2011 lookbooks are styled by well-known fashion bloggers.

For men: Travis Gumbs & Joshua Kissi (http://streetetiquette.com/) and Daniel Trepanier (http://becauseimaddicted.net/)

Bar III is causing a stir and it's still being tweeted about....not only will it be available in Macy's but Macy's will try something new and out of their element and open a pop-up shop for 3 weeks ONLY at 156 5th Ave. @ 20th Street starting February 10th! I advise you to check it out. Not only because it's a brand my PR firm represents but because the prices are amazing (Tops starting at $19, Dresses starting at $58, and Denim starting at $78)!

Year 2, Internship 2

Hey! Welcome to my Year 2! My journey into the fashion world. Last year, I completed 9 months studying at Polimoda in Florence, Italy and 3 months at my 1st fashion internship for a start up public relations company in NYC. Today, I have started a new internship at another fashion public relations company in NYC. Last year was an emotional roller-coaster and I know this year will be too! I'm trying to get an in in Fashion PR in NYC all while finding a friendly niche and hopefully a love interest hehehe (perhaps I should apply to Millionaire Matchmaker) - all of this requires confidence, positivity and self assurance. I know I can! Yes I can! I know I will!

This new internship will be different from the last. Although, they are both PR - this time I will be focusing on inventory, samples, organization, and perhaps some events. My last internship was more of the communications side of PR (emailing, cold calling, and emailing). I'm exhausted already! hahahaha The office was a mess! They are going through some remodeling and everything is all over the place and I'm a neat freak! I find myself using the organizing post its, folding bags, picking up pens or hangers in order to continue my focus on sample inventory - but I LIKE IT! I'm moving and doing and that's what I like. At the last internship, I was just sitting and emailing all day and by the time I knew it it was 5pm. Another thing I like is the fact that there are other interns! Like 6 more! However, one of them was weird. She was assisting me all day and she eventually asked me to go to lunch with her. But while looking for a place to eat and during lunch she seemed very uninterested to talk - so why'd you ask me to lunch? cat got your tongue? ... then I thought? did I say something to offend you? (since people are so easily offended or bothered). ugh! well besides her, the interns and co-workers are all very very nice! great work environment! :D - - at the past internship, I only had a co-intern for 2 weeks. she was eventually fired for bailing work and talking back to the boss (not cool) but at least the boss and i got a long amazing!

Now I'd like to write a lil piece called "thats sooooo intern!"
At my last internship, I made the mistake of wearing heels sometimes - and when I wore them, I was suddenly told to run errands and drop off various clothing bags all over Manhattan. [Like my friends say "Like the devil wears Prada".

Today, I made the mistake of answering questions too fast. I was asked if I liked dogs or if I was allergic to them - "No! I love them!" ... what happened? well I was asked to walk, poop, and drop off 'pablo' the office dog to his lux apartment ... yep! that was me! the intern skipping through town to pick up some doggy poop. LOL
............... that's sooooooooo intern!

To all those starting to intern or moving into the fashion world ...
hey! it's all fair play...live n learn, baby!

Happy New Year!

I can't stop talking about it ... but I went to the BEST NYE party ever! Nicaragua always hosts the best parties but this year, Moondance surpassed all our expectations. Not only does Nicaragua have the best parties but we also have the best dressed people. Nicaraguans definitely care about the way they look and go all out for a night they will never forget. I only took a few pictures to give you an idea - they were the dresses I couldn't take my eyes off! They aren't the best pictures - I didn't want to ask people to pose for me while they were celebrating and Nicas are kinda weird when it comes to "hey, can i photograph for a fashion blog?" ... besides the 3 dresses - you can also see my friend, Lluvi and I going with the sparkly look but more towards comfort ;) ... it's a lil late but Happy New Years to everyone who follows me! Thank you so much for your support! XoXo

NYC-PR-INTERNSHIP-JOB HUNT-where am I heading?

For my friends who have followed my blog - Thank You! Honestly, I haven't been busy. But if I can sum it up, life in NYC (since my move in September from Florence, Italy) has been internship, gym, shopping, new family, new friends, walking in the cold, and job hunting.

I want to try to keep this post short but I think I'm gonna have to divide into personal and fashion student related.

On the personal side, my move here wasn't as scary or terrible as Florence. I feel safer and jollier when I walk the streets here and now with snow I feel romantic and nostalgic because I have no love interest but thats ok I'm heading back home soon ;) It's all party there. Finding an apartment in Manhattan was pretty much luck! My boss recommended me her friends apartment, where I now live with 2 other roommates. The roommates have been great. They are hardworking women and we all try to keep the apartment nice and clean. I have no complaints about them! Which is weird. The only complaint is about my apartment - the surrounding is damn loud! But hey that's NYC for you. Most of the noise are the loud ass fire trucks 24/7! and it used to be people bar hopping but now that its cold no one stays outside and its quieter. Before finding a place, I was living with some family.

Family I had never met. It was weird at first but they were so welcoming and sweet that it was never too awkward. My move here has also been easy because my old friend Maria who used to live in Nicaragua. Unfortunately, she felt a certain pressure to make me feel at home or busy with dinner and party plans. Eventually, we had the talk. So now there is no pressure to go out every single night or weekend. and for the final touch, my very good friend and classmate from Polimoda moved to NYC (technically NJ) for her fashion internship! and my cousin also set me up a friendship blind date with her college buddy who is also new to NYC and we have also become friends and because of her I've met a diverse group of people, who I think I can eventually call friends.

The only issue that brought me a little down was the fact that my "friends" from back home that have been living in NYC for a while have failed to appear. They have either stopped answering my emails or say "yeah, I'll call you later this week for drinks". People have told me "That's NYC for you - people completely change face" ...... All I'm thinking now is that I hope not to bump into you back home cause I don't wanna hear your lame ass excuse! ..... As a friend, you should have welcomed me, tried to help me around the subways, finding a place, or at least had 1 cup of coffee with me! Is that really a lot to ask for?

On a Fashion Student side ..... My internship wasn't what I expected. No glitz, no glam, no office. It was basically me and the founder and since she just launched in January 2010 - she is still starting and had no office. We basically worked out of a coffee shop and creative lounge. At 1st it was all cold calling and email pitching. Eventually, I got bored and asked her for more. I also started reading about 'What really PR is' and the answer was "Email All Day" and that's exactly what I did. I was in a rot for a bit but then I started to enjoy it again. I saw the Communications side of PR - I blogged, created lookbooks, wrote my 1st press release, pitched stylists, editors, and stores and of course I was a messenger girl but just a few times.

What happens now? Well I started applying to jobs in November and December. Jobs in PR. Entry-level positions. I've had 2 nervous breakdowns already. Why? Well I believe I have a good resume but it's just not fashion related and I have no fashion or PR names (LV, Gucci, Lacoste, People's Revolution) on it. My 1st internship was this new PR firm. However, this was my decision! I turned down Product Development for BE&D, never heard back from 7th House PR, and shot down a possibility at Starworks. Maybe I should have waited for something good but something told me to take this internship. I don't regret it but maybe I should have picked a name since I'm 25 years and desperately searching for a paying job. I realized late in the game that I wanted to pursue Fashion and now Fashion PR. My suggestion to those who are young .... INTERN! As much as you can! .... Anyways, after applying to jobs and getting NO answer! I last minute decided to intern yet again! This time for PR big timers ;) ..... I'll be there for 4 months and hopefully after that I'll be able to get a paying job somewhere in PR!

It's definitely tough here in NYC but I'm confident. I know who I am, hard-working, and optimistic ..... I guess it just takes time .... a lot of PATIENCE!

P.S. There's a lot of drama in PR! It's high school all over again but I like it ;)

Dear NYC PR,

I hope all is good cause I'm here to stay ;)

Best,

Trend Report: Resort "Faux" Turban

I like to think of it as thee perfect accessory for a bad hair day or too add a lil luxe into my beach attire. I'm heading back to paradise (aka Nicaragua) in a week and will definitely be spending some time at the pool and beach with my Pucci scarfs molded into "faux" turbans.

A fellow fashion blogger, The Glamourai, has a great slideshow of "How to Tie your Own Turban" http://www.theglamourai.com/2010/10/how-to-tie-your-own-turban.html - I've also seen some great videos on YouTube. Enjoy! ;)

I'd also like to send a lil hello to my turban ladies, Mom & Crystal. My artsy mother loves them & so does my favorite fashionista new yorker.

Holiday Gift Guide: Inspired by Scott Disick

If you watch Keeping up with Kardashians, you know who Scott Disick is. He has impeccable style, suave, and is my real life straight Christian (Cher's gay boyfriend in Clueless). Soooooo hot! Such great style! [Sigh]

Anyways, when I find my boyfriend of this type I will definitely try to get him the following gifts. Living in Florence, I was introduced to men's luxury swimwear brand, Vilebrequin. They have amazing cuts, styles, and color patterns. Prices start at $200 for the Master Paradise style of these St. Tropez trunks. http://www.vilebrequinonlinestore.com/

Marc Jacobs always has an amazing array of special items from MJ Sharpies to MJ condoms, but following our style inspiration I came across the cutest bow tie - only for $25http://www.marcjacobs.com/special-items/view-all-special-items/0cb2c477-05f0-45bb-be91-ab90fdd1c977/bowtie--25

Before creating this gift guide, I asked my long time best guy where he likes to shop. He said Polo (by Ralph Lauren I assume), J. Crew, and Gilt.com. J. Crew was perfect for this guide! Therefore, I am showing a look pulled from their Resort Collection. While looking around I also stumbled upon Ray Bans at J. Crew. I don't think you can ever go wrong with Ray Bans! Who doesn't love Ray Bans? Classic!! http://www.jcrew.com/mens_special_shops/theresortshop.jsp

CK Obsession cologne is a gift I am actually buying my father. He doesn't exactly have this particular style but I had to pay homage to him. I also don't have a clue what men's cologne is IN right now. All I know about men's cologne is Cool Water - I think all the guys were wearing it back in 6th grade and Axe - because of their commercials and it smells soooooooooo sooooooooooo bad! Therefore, make sure you know about cologne and that he actually wears cologne. Some guys don't wear anything and smell so manly like Aiden from Sex and the City (so said Carrie).

I almost thought about gifting my man with a subscription to GQ but do people still subscribe now that we can read it online? So instead GQ gave me a gift idea. A book - I know I know ... a book? But if the book is good - he'll love it! I have recently been gifted amazing fashion books. So why not? Take Ivy by Powerhouse Books is a book that takes a look into the culture of Ivy League Anglo style from it's roots in the 1950s and 1960s. The book shows students on campus wearing skinny plaid shorts, slim oxford cloth shirts and ubiquitous penny loafers. I think I might actually buy it!! http://www.gq.com/how-to/rest-of-your-life/201011/gq-gift-guide-2010-books-for-men#ixzz17xmLp6Jz

And last but not least - a video game. I think my girlfriends would kill me for recommending this but if you really love him - you gotta get him what he wants. After all he is a child and it's the holiday toy of the year.

Happy Holidays! XoXo

Meatpacking District : Modern Dandy

DANDY (also known as a beaugallant, or hipster) is a man who places particular importance upon physical appearance, refined language, and leisurely hobbies, pursued with the appearance of nonchalance in a cult of Self. Historically, especially in late 18th- and early 19th-century Britain, a DANDY, who was self-made, often strove to imitate an aristocratic style of life despite coming from a middle-class background.
