Links I Love: Miami Bloggers

new city, means new media contacts to a pr girl - more than ever have I been getting familiar with the local news desk producers, magazines, editors, reporters, and above all  - the food, event and fashion blogs. I'm definitely a blogger girl as most bloggers tend to review items, events and restaurants you might have never heard of. I even won a valentine's day giveaway from The Architect of Style on The Wordy Girl and experience food through Fat Girl Hedonist's instagram.

So here is a list of my favorite local blogs, sites, igs:

Everything Going On In Miami - THE 305
(music, gossip, events, fashion, sports - i mean, EVERY-THING! about miami life)

Fashion Blog - NANY'S CLOSET
(my absolute favorite miami fashion blogger. not only do i go their for style ideas but i've ombred my hair bc of her videos. in addition, it is the BEST looking blog - aesthetically speaking)

Miami Deals - GILT CITY MIAMI
(the last PR firm I worked with, ran a food & wine coupon here and since then, I've missed the opportunity to buy coupons to miami style mafia and and international polo club palm beach - so move fast!)

Fashion Blog - THE ARCHITECT OF STYLE
(i used to have 2 blogs but eventually combined both of the blogspots. when i was trying to figure out a name for one of them it was something along the lines of "Architect Stalker" - i don't even remember, i was never too fond of the name. BUT i am fond of this blog, it's also where i won my illustration from. she covers fashion, home decor and definitely check out her illustrations)

Places - MIAMI DESIGN DISTRICT
(I prefer their IG - I found their website as the last food & wine event I worked was hosted at the Moore Building)

Fashion Blog - THE WORDY GIRL
(yet another accomplished social media maven. i actually read her blog, it's real and funny)

Places - TRENDY SPOTS MIAMI
(I discovered them on Latina stylist, Irma Martinez's IG. I'm getting to know a lil Miami dets and new lifestyle spots)

Fashion Blog - OJ AND CIGS
(stylist, former new york, and former DJ - hip)

Fashion Stylist - IRMA MARTINEZ
(constantly traveling but Miami based stylist, Irma is a must-IG-follow)

Store - MIAMI STYLE MAFIA
(They don't update their Facebook, so follow up their IG. i don't remember how i first found out about them but it was way before all their press. i think they posted an internship opportunity and thought their showroom/store/pieces and general concept was dope and an upgrade for the miami girl's closet)

Fashion Blog - LIVING IN COLOR PRINT
(runner-up on my fashion blog favorites and a pr girl as well)

Food - FAT GIRL HEDONIST
(again, i found this blog when i was researching special guests for the food & wine event i worked. i highly recommend her IG)

Fashion Blog - ELECTRIC BLOGARELLA
(if i could my list would include Daily Candy Miami - and this blogger was one of the main editors. RIP DC. but her blog is pretty good as well)

Networking - MIAMI MEDIA MIXER
(my best guy friend sent me the invite to their last networking event at batch. and since then, have told everyone about it. perfect social events to meet people in the industry.)

Fashion Blog - THE FASHION POET
(voted Miami's fashion blogger for 2013. not only does she dress herself but she has the cutest kid model. perfect! now i know where to shop for my unborn miami girl)

Store - BLUSH BOUTIQUE
(just noticed some of these bloggers have been dressing a tiger dress from this miami store. good thing, they are literally around the corner from me bc I never have anything to wear ;) locations: palmetto, brickell, south miami, miami beach, etc)

Fashion Blog - COLLECTIONS AND VOLUMES
(i literally just found this blog. obsessed.)

Bloggers Trending: Over-Sized Twisted White Tee

Style Blogger, Karla of Karla's Closet
" All Tied Up " blog post

her look caught my attention because of the full skirt. then i realized i had saved Arielle's photo (below) because of the knot detail. as you can see Karla is wearing a basic top from Madewell which she added the twist to. OUTFIT IDEA!

for some reason as a pre-teen, i would always do this to my tops except it would be a side knot and not on my midriff. once i was in high school, our uniforms were basic white tops and navy blue pants. my pants were SUPER tight (i seriously couldn't even bend down) and my tops were XL (i wasn't a big girl) - idk why i wore them that big? i seriously just didn't care. BUT because they were XL, i would knot down and create some sort of bow out of it - to only undo after 5 minutes lbecause the disciplinary was always on my ass about my fashion sense. WHERE WAS GOSSIP GIRL at my age! :(

Style Blogger, Arielle of Something Navy
"BandStand" blog post

Arielle tells us on her post, that this white piece is not a tee but a dress. However, I feel like I can pull this off with one of my dad's XL white tees. hmmmm, I guess we will wait and see.

Clothing Report: Spring Jacket

it's been a while but i've been applying to jobs. however, i still have time to stroll around Soho after my interviews. i walked into a vintage store on Prince; i'm not a big fan of vintage but i found this colorful striped MARC BY MARC JACOBS jacket for $200 (damn! i wish i had a job!) and then i walked around to LF to check out their Jeffrey Campbell shoes and Rebecca Minkoff bags and found myself trying on another jacket. is my body telling me it wants a new jacket? lol i actually don't have a spring jacket nor a jean jacket...i'm actually not a big blazer/jacket fan all around. however, i did score this orange oriental/matador SHANTALL LACAYO jacket ;) but this jacket is for a night out. i think i might need an everyday spring jacket. so here are my 'dream' spring jackets.

{btw i googled the MARC by marc jacobs jacket, it sold out on Net-A-Porter and the Outnet for a final discount price of $144; Name: Jacquetta Stripe Jacket; fuchsia and orange striped twill jacket with transparent organza panels and white trim}

SHOP jackets at ShopBop.com or Net-A-Porter.com

Editor Behavior

welcome to part two, again you will find me to be a tad displeased about a certain issue i have faced while living in Nicaragua. in short, fashion ignorance.

STORY TWO : EDITORS

again, i will remind you that moving back to Nicaragua has been a tough experience but one i try to make the most out of. therefore, right before i moved back i started emailing print media (newspapers and magazines) my resume and cover letter in order to perhaps snatch or propose a fashion critique, street style columnist or blogger position ala Bill Cunningham or Cathy Horyn.

to quickly give you an idea of (fashion o non-fashion) print media in nicaragua, it consists of 2 mass newspapers, 4 secured magazines, and 3 new magazines. right off, the back, LET ME WARN YOU RIGHT NOW, this will offend you....THE WORST nicaraguan magazines are 2 new ones, Stilo and JetSet. What a ripoff! I think we can all collect our favorite pieces from Net-A-Porter and fashion week, looks from the Oscars, interview our cool friends, and google our horoscope,  put them together in powerpoint, add fun font, click print and BOOM i got a magazine! One editor is a tomboy and another just shops online - just because you can put words and pictures together does not make you a fashion editor.
anyways, i tried and tried to reach out to the other print media but was left unheard. the one editor that interviewed me, wanted me as their magazine blogger which was a great idea but unfortunately magazines here sell at $3-$5 and i was at least asking for $250 (yep! $250. nothing!) i eventually received an email stating "we have no budget". oh well. on to the next.

i may have not snagged a cute a little column but i'm sure i have more readers on this blog (+15,000 visitors, +124 countries worldwide) (wassssssup?) than these other media outlets. oh! and i can use foul language!! yeahhh man! always a plus!

DEAR FASHION WRITERS :
What bothers me about not being considered for a writing position at these newspapers or magazines is the fact that their fashion writers AREN'T even living in nicaragua! one guy is a has-been designer, another is a former miss nicaragua, and other people with no fashion knowledge at all! and don't even get me started on how most magazines just splash the pages with high society pictures of the same people! hellooooooooooo, 1% 'rich' 99% poverty level!

for example, yesterday an editor ended an article on a charity event on a sour note because she was bored of the same collection pieces from 2 distinguished Nicaraguan designers.

"Otras de las colecciones que se presentaron en el evento no aportaron estilos novedosos. Fue más de lo que ya habíamos apreciado en otras pasarelas, nos quedaron a deber ingenio y creatividad." ---> (translation) "while the other collections presented at the event lacked new styles. it's best to even say, we have already seen these pieces at other shows, owing us ingenuity and creativity."

why does this bother me? because i can't stand fashion ignorance and i will explain it as simple as possible.

HOMEWORK
DESIGNER: An amazing struggling fashion designer doesn't have a fancy lifestyle and lives at poverty line for the beginning of their career. It's a career made up of tears, sweat, impatience, stress, and tons of fabric. It's a career that takes time, dedication, hard work and above all passion. As this person grows at some financial point, they are given a chance to dream up a harmonious collection which can consist of 15 - 50 pieces.

COLLECTIONS: The collections are broken down by season and debuted on certain dates.
- Fall / Winter
- Spring / Summer
- Resort
- Cruise
- Haute-Couture

SALES / PRESS : Once the collections are exhibited, they are pitched for press and eventually sold on certain dates.

therefore, dear editor, why must you critique these talented emerging designers and their collections? if you wanted to see something new, head on over to forever 21, h&m or zara - fast fashion. Fast Fashion is a term given to brands who deliver different pieces each week, month and do not work on specific inspiration or look but are driven by sales and trends; while real designers SET trends and are DRIVEN by the love of what they do best, DESIGN.

What Fashion People Do

What I think I do? Both of these sheets display images of the 'Miranda Priestly" in the Devil Wears Prada. In my case, I ain't "THE BOSS" yet. So what do I think do? I think they should show pictures of interns and assistants busting their asses like "Andy Sachs" from the Devil Wears Prada. My friends also always link me to the Devil Wears Prada....the correct answer, I've been interning and working in PUBLIC RELATIONS with a side of BLOGGING! I basically write emails all day to event coordinators, MY BOSS (designer Shantall Lacayo), stylists, editors, update social media platforms, create marketing and sales strategies and when fashion week or event comes along - what doesn't happen? IT'S A JOB. A TOUGH JOB. I may be online all freakin' day but I'm working and getting shit done. i'm seriously sick of people thinking i'm just flipping through magazines, blogs, or dress to the T ... cause i'm actually working on press clippings, creating a blogger network, and not currently wearing all black and no makeup #justsayin

These parodies are tooooo hilarious, I watch them over and over and see myself and friends in them, how bad is that?

i thought life was suppose to be easier after my masters program. guess not! i'm here n there!
but at the end very thankful for the those who have stuck by me, motivated me, and slapped me in the face and told me i got something y que todo viene a su tiempo!

at the end of this year, i've met a lot of people involved in the fashion world, blogger world, designer world, and finishing the year i'll be producing my 1st runway show with Shantall in nicaragua - closing 2011 with a bang!

I see my red door and it has been painted black
