“I’m usually designing for a businesswoman who is confident. This season, that girl is going out and going on vacation. She’s having fun with the clothes.” - Azede Jean-Pierre

Now Trending: Druzy Stones

Jewelry Collection: “On The Rocks” by Nicaraguan designer, Karla Castillo

Dark Blue Druzy Double Drop Post Earrings & Organic Interchangable Druzy Earrings by Brazilian Jewelry designer, Marcia Moran.

Both Latin American designers are living a parallel universe with their latest collections featuring Druzy Stones. The druzy stones is a gemstone (quartz crystal) that is usually dyed and available in different colors. They kind of remind me of the stones I would create when I was 7 years old with my awesome geology rock formation kit! #BigBang #Geek #FashionGeek LOL

New Nicaraguan Designer Alert: Turquesa Boutique

Last week, new Nicaraguan designer, Yaosca of Turquesa Boutique presented her collection at a private New York residence.

Inspired by the waves, surfers and nature of San Juan del Sur, Nicaragua, new fashion and accessory designer Yaosca brings a unique mix of style to the globetrotting beach babe and offers a wide selection of the most desirable and coveted vintage clothing and accessories as well as unique designer pieces.

The guests described her pieces to be authentic, unique, conversational, trendy, hippie, natural, and colorful.

Our special guest, Nicaraguan model/actress Maria de Jesus, described the collection as organic and boho and perfect for the summer. Her piece of choice, the metal headband. Follow Maria on Twitter @marypoppings

The pieces were indeed authentic to San Juan del Sur and to the bohemian beach babe. Her pieces are available at San Juan del Sur, Nicaragua and online. Visit her Facebook Fan Page: Turquesa Boutique and website, Turquesa Online Store .

About the Designer: Yaosca Jiménez is originally from Managua, Nicaragua but currently resides by the Pacific coast shore city of San Juan del Sur, Nicaragua. With barely 2 years under her belt as an accessories designer, she debuted her first collection in the Summer of 2010 in Madrid, Spain; since then Jiménez has held showings in Lisbon, Panama City, Buenos Aires, Los Angeles, San Francisco, New York, San Juan del Sur, and Managua. Jiménez explains, “I strive to get unexpected results from mixing new technologies with traditional techniques”. Yaosca has also been designing trendy dresses, tops, and shorts for Spices & Sugar boutique in Managua, Nicaragua.

My favorite piece: the porcelain double ring.
My least favorite picture: Me wearing the ring. lol. i'm the worst hand model. not delicate at all. lol.
My new favorite nail polish: Metallic Silver by Sephora.

Event: Vicente Castellon S/S 2012

VC constantly reminds us on Facebook "aquí seguimos trabajando, porque en Nicaragua hay moda y talento de sobra" which translates into "we're still working, because in Nicaragua there is fashion and so much more talent". He's an enthusiastic young Nicaraguan designer, who can now cross out "First Runway Show" off his fashionable bucket list with a note reading "Awesome!"

VC SS12 can only be described as On Trend - from splashes of color to spring nautical to eclectic prints to the inevitable color-blocking trend. Definitely a collection for all women and all occasions. There is no reason why you wouldn't like it or wear it, he does it all!

I got my eyes set on a few pants, maxi dresses, stripe blazer and midis - yep, I kinda want it all!

Congrats VICENTE! You did it! So when's the next show? ;)

Accessory Spotlight: Nicaraguan Designers

(post image was changed 2 days later because i didn't like the layout ... it seemed cluttered, hope this looks better)

the last info on my resume reads INTERESTS and the two bullet points read
  • accessory hunting, cooking, modern art and traveling
  • my fashion blog, beatricecatchesfashion.blogspot.com
man, DO I LOVE to buy accessories, dive into my moms vintage, miss the Italian flee markets, and continue to try to master the skill of accessory designing - I've tried all sorts of bracelets, anklets, and headbands. it's definitely a skill i'd love to possess. however, i'll just continue shopping and looking for new designers.

Therefore, I present to you not just one but three exceptional Nicaraguan accessory designers that are not only spreading wings in Nicaragua but in Chile, Argentina, and Australia. At the moment, all two of the three are part-time designers (lawyer, architect student) but all three have managed to present their collections with rave reviews.

Georgina describes her brand to be a mixture of silver, 18 karat gold-plated silver, leather, 'carey' designs decorated with semi precious stones and other diverse natural elements that highlight femininity. This past December, GEO debuted her latest collection named 'Aurum' at the SS12 Shantall Lacayo runway show.

Every Rose Has Its Thorn piece by Gabriela Galeano

Heart Of Steel piece by Gabriela Galeano

 Intruder piece by Gabriela Galeano

My recent obsession and discovery has been young designer, Gabriela, who turned her dream into reality in 2011. She describes Sunday to Sunday, to be more than just a jewelry line, but a concept, a lifestyle. For every woman out there who isn't afraid to be herself and stand out rather than blend in. That's exactly the kind of jewelry and brand i love! Not only is her mission a statement but so are those pieces! Can't wait to get my hands on them.

Karla's brand caught my eye not only because of the massive rings but because she works with recycled silver! She combines swarovski crystals, semi precious stones, river pearls, wood, and sea shell oysters found across the Nicaraguan beach coasts! Reminds me of the jewelry from Indonesia - pure, eclectic, and bold.

Event: NINI Fashion Style at Ponte Vecchio

Last night, I attended the NINI Fashion Style event at Boutique Ponte Vecchio for a quick bit. I was there so fast I didn't even touch the champagne (I know, I can't believe it myself but hey I had a huge Thanksgiving dinner waiting for me at home) - You may remember a while ago, I did a little write up on 3 Emerging Nicaraguan designers - one of which was Norma Gomez of NINI and since then I've been following her every move everyday on her fan page and I've already seen some pieces but once I was at Ponte Vecchio - it was a whole different experience. They were all nicely merchandised on the racks and boy was it was a beautiful array of colors, stripes, stars, and flower power! My first thought was "definitely a young version of fashion designer Patrick Robinson". She turns everyday basics into youthful playful pieces for all shapes and sizes - and the prices are freakin' AWESOME! This is one of the reasons I love and shop emerging designer labels - gett'em before their hot! Congrats to NINI!

NINI is the new Nicaraguan designer addition to Boutique Ponte Vecchio (GEO Accessories, Shantall Lacayo) - Thank you Ponte Vecchio for introducing and being a helping hand for emerging designers! ;)
