What NOT to Wear: Fashion Job Interview
yesterday i went to a (fashion) job interview and the girl walking in after my interview was wearing jean shorts. sorry, but in my book that is a no no. i feel like, it's an honor to be considered for a position (you really want) and respectful to wear a office chic somewhat formal attire. yes, the company is laid back, loves prints, eclectic, from New York, and young - but shorts...really!? i'm not telling you to wear boring black trousers and a white long sleeved top. but you can certainly, go for a Jenna Lyons look. slimmed trousers, casual summer blazer, striped boyfriend tee and loafers. idk? mix it up. it's fashion. you can have fun but not be lazy about it. i also know it's relatively hot in NY right now - but i just can't. whatever happened to "dress to impress" or "dress for the job you want and not have"? therefore, here are some samples of jean short looks NOT to wear for a job interview (well according to me). and here are some samples of looks (featuring Jenna Lyons) you can try for your next fashion job / internship interview.

Hair Inspiration: Brunette to Blonde
I don't think I can pull off a blonde Queen B or blonde Kim K and I definitely do not want ombre. everyone has ombre. and once my hair is a certain length it tends to dry at the tips - so if i would dare to go ombre, i'd ruin them and have to cut it short and that is a big no no. short / medium cut is not my look. i simply look bigger. however, i can't help but want to change my hair look every so often. if i only had a personal hair stylist who could change up my look.
so here are my latest brunette to blonde hair inspos.
perhaps for this new fall season, i'll finally give in.
stay tuned.

Update: Life of PR Girl
sorry, i've been mad busy since like june. i moved to nicaragua for a few months to help out for nicaragua disena and the project was a hit! lots of drama, new designers, new press and designer friends and much more. nd13 was probably one of the most exhausting but satisfying projects i've ever been a part of. handling ever single contact for general info to late designer arrivals hours before their show and model cancellations. no one has a clue but nicaragua HAS design and model talent. dear buyers, you need to plan a trip to nicaragua, perhaps for nd14.
i've also been meaning to share a little shopping. nd13 was the place to be for unique pieces. my mom snagged a geo designs necklace by Georgina Vargas and i picked up these earrings by Karla Castillo. KC presented a small collection titled Oceanica. the details of my earrings are beyond real - they were created with the beach sand and stones found on the pacific shoreline..to be specific at Poneloya beach. another favorite (but not a purchase) was the turtle bracelet; check it out on her fan page and look book album. her oceanica collection was inspired by the ocean's depth, animals, textures and coral reef colors.
felicidades KC! sigue adelante!!

and now i am back in ny. hustlin and trying to get a new pr / social media gig. thank God, i found an apartment in record time - 3 days. and was able to dedicate myself to the 2nd august project, shantall's debut in ny. shout out to latina magazine, iman cosmetics and my friends for supporting the event we were a part of. and now its post event time. pitching day n night, trying to get editors to see shantall's ss14 work for future stories. dear editors, why don't we try something new...like supporting real emerging designers. designers who are struggling and trying to make a name for themselves. i don't think prada or versace need more covers or spreads. perhaps, your research team should scout undiscovered talent so these designers can keep things going for a possible buyer meeting. it's not easy to meet with buyers if you are 'no one', pay to be a part of trade shows and produce mass production especially with this new 'buyer/consignment' trend. small boutiques and online stores aren't buying but they want to change our collections fabric for their potential clients and for us to have merchandise. how is a designer going to have merchandise, if NO money is coming in. so, help these designers land opportunities with your "Must Have" or "Get to Know this Emerging Designer" features. press gets the word out to stylists, celebs, and potential real buyers. i'm sure LV will continue to buy ad space, so i'm sure you can manage to include emerging designers. just sayin.
- anyways - the ss14 look book we created is by far the best we have ever created. it's a little booklet that opens up like a train map (however not as gigantic as the nyc mta map). props to the model, miss teen, rebecca and our photographer, erick monterrosa; who made it happen. check out the ss14 look book on the shantall lacayo facebook fan page.

Trending Again: White Nail Polish
and it's back! ... white nail polish. as seen at the Rag & Bone, Vivienne Westwood Gold Label and Moschino SS13 runway shows. Beauty expert, Jenny Longworth describes this trend as "cooler, graphic take on a fresh summer colour".
i remember the first time i saw a friend wearing white nail polish back in 2006 and i just thought it was the best idea ever! futuristic, clean, and unique.
this weekend, instead of going for a white out white or neon pink, i went for a pale white but the girls around me at the salon were going for the white out white. damn. too trendy already?
what's your current nail polish trend?

I Covet: Bauble Bar
I discovered Bauble Bar as I subscribed to a Who What Wear contest and started receiving their daily emails. Probably 1 of the few daily suscriptions I LOVE along with The Outnet, Net-A-Porter, J. Crew and Jetsetter. Ever since I've recommended the site to all my friends because it's easy on the pocket and simply fun fashion jewelry. Honestly, I haven't bought anything from the site because I'm afraid once I receive the item it will look like plastic scratched up jewelry from H&M. Therefore, hopefully they will open a pop store once again in New York so I can actually see and touch the items.
I usually frequent Bauble Bar for their statement and bib necklaces especially after visiting over-priced and last season jewelry stores in Nicaragua. BB definitely refreshes my trendy mind with their Guest Bartenders and Must List and reminds me to keep calm and not shop imported goodies. ha!
Therefore, I invite you all to discover Bauble Bar and some of my favorite pieces...

ever heard of the term "power dressing"? it stems from the 1980s working woman who started hustlin' and dressin' to get ahead in the game....seen the movie, "Working Girl"? designers like Ralph Lauren, Giorgio Armani, Donna Karan and Anne Klein made it happen and the 80s woman splurged on sharp "matchy/mactchy" blazers, pantsuits or midi skirts, which eventually led to striped and softer power suits due to Madonna's "Blond Ambition" era and don't even get me started on Ally McBeal...a show my sister still watches! at this time, my sister was a newlywed and her whole team and company was all male (i remember because she had to babysit me and take me to work). her closet back then was jam packed with a colorful array of fuchsia dark red, black, pin striped, gray, lily, purple, navy blue, light blue, olive green, cream, yellow, white, baby pink and many more power suits that differentiated her from the rest and lead her to bigger roles. till this day, she still has them (well not ALL of them) and I can tell she found them at Macy's.
little by little i've been vintage browsing her closet for blazers or adding tailored trousers to my everyday look and now, the whole look is making a comeback! except now in floral, bolder stripes, palm prints, animal print, all prints, and with shorts! simply wear a crisp white bottom down, button it up all the way, add a bow tie if you like, pintate la boca (literally: paint your mouth) as my mom says, throw on leopard or silver pumps, pick up your tote and don't forget your i-phone!
my favorite example of power dressing is Hillary Clinton, I saw the picture below over a month ago and thought, is power dressing really dead? So, I started cleaning up my interview look and felt a lot more confident. I felt a little too confident, that I started trying on blazers completely out of my budget around the Meatpacking district at DVF, Alice+Olivia and had a pricey but delicious lunch at Pastis.
So thank you, Bianca Jagger, YSL, Giorgio Armani, Hillary Clinton and Coco Chanel for the original crisp power suits but ... I'm kinda obsessed with the spunky, Jenna Lyons (J. Crew) working girl look.
But I'll never forget,
DRESS FOR THE JOB YOU WANT NOT THE JOB YOU HAVE.
"Wall Street may be 95 percent men, but don't dress like one. But don't dress like a girly-girl either." - @marieclaire
