Get to Know: Alejandro Ayon

de donde salio Alejandro Ayon? bueno yo lo conoci por Andrea (mi super asistente para Nicaragua Diseña) - bueno no nos hemos conocido porque no estoy en nicaragua pero igual que todos los otros, estoy obsesionada e impresionada y soy una nueva fan de su trabajo. he's exactly what nicaragua needs, Bold Androgyny. and he's our up and coming blogger, make up artist, model, and what next? well we will have to wait and see ;)
his work is impeccable and i can't wait to meet him personally. so who is Alejandro Ayon?

Cual Make Up Artist profesional / internacional te inspira?

Si no fueras Make Up Artist, serias?

Persona quien deseas maquillar?
Hay muchas... Off the top of my head puedo decir que me fascinaria maquillar a Daphne Groeneveld, Stav Strashko, Lana del Rey y Valeria Lukyanova.
Stav Strashko
Daphne Groeneveld

Valeria Lukyanova

Get to Know: Vicente Castellon

when i moved back to nicaragua last year, my mission was to create a new circle of fashionista friends - one of those new friends was (is) Vicente Castellon. in one word, CLASSIC. he evokes, defines, and designs Class. we have grown to be great friends and although i'm in nyc, we constantly chat via watsapp, twitter, facebook, and skype! so please meet, my dear friend, VC.

Si no fueras diseñadora, serias?

Get to Know: ESTEFAN

It's been weeks since I've truly dedicated some time to my dear ol' blog. So I emailed a few of my Nicaraguan designer friends some silly questions so we can get to know them a little better. first up, new bag lady designer, Estefania Lacayo. Lacayo's label ESTEFAN has been blowing up a storm in Nicaragua with her debut collection 'POP ART' which reminds me of lip-inspired pieces by DVF, Charlotte Olympia and specially Solange Azagury-Partridge. she is definitely one to watch for (as were all the designers/exhibitors of Nicaragua Diseña 2012). Like her stuff? then maybe you should LIKE her facebook fan page ;)

Cual diseñador internacional te inspira?
Me inspiran muchos por el estilo como Victoria Beckham, Chloé, Elie Saab, Raf Simons para Jil Sander y Dior, Pier Paolo Piccioli and Maria Grazia para Valentino, J.Mendel, Giambattista Valli, Carven... y por la personalidad Coco Chanel

La ultima cancion que bajastes para Ipod?
Video Games - Lana del Rey

Si no fueras diseñadora, serias?

Link: http://www.garancedore.fr/

Street Style: Fashion Night Out NYC

i usually blog immediately. these FNO pics are way past due. oops. but hey, i am no paid full-time blogger. anyways, here are a few street style pics i shot around Chelsea and Meatpacking. my friends and i tried to go to DVF but there was a 30-40 min waiting line. uhmm, no thanks. so we walked around and enjoyed a few drinks at scoop and The Standard Biergarten. FNO was legit crazy. last time and first time i went was when i first moved to NYC and immediately feel in love with Manhattan. i walked all of the 5th and waited in the Bergdorf Goodman line. FNO is a night to dress up, walk around, check out spectacular outfits with a drink in hand and a great group of friends.

Inspiring: Rosario Murillo

i took a class at Polimoda called fashion trends. we basically produced 3 or 4 powerpoint presentations on random trends - one of them being "Inspiring Women". my team and i ended up presenting Dita Von Teese but I had pitched them Rosario Murillo. the other teams presented Jackie O, Carla Bruni, and well I can't remember the rest. point is, we had to present to the class, women who have influenced fashion in their personal and work life as well affecting others along the way. therefore, that is why i pitched Rosario Murillo. she's eclectic, bold, daring, and doesn't give a flying f*ck what you think of her stacked rings and bracelets and 400 different dresses (apparently she never wears the same outfit twice).

years ago, i read an article in Magazine for La Prensa Nicaragua about her life and in it of course, there were pictures of her earlier years and i was definitely impressed. she rocked print pants, chunky accessories, the cat eye eye makeup, flat hipster boots, and the pixie cut! and to prove it, i found this picture on Nicaragua del Recuerdo, album Personajes.

Murillo continues to prove she will not ever be what you consider 'normal' and your typical first lady.

What I Would Wear: Work

have you ever watched Two Broke Girls? well if you haven't its based on two (yes, broke) girls living in Brooklyn, trying to make rent each month by waitressing but still enjoy an occasional bargain at the Salvation Army.

I've never been to big on shopping at the Salvation Army or at the many 'vintage' shops New York has to offer but if u have time, you can find some good designer or consignment deals.

New York is crazy expensive (unlimited metro card runs a steep $110 each month) but when you walk by the bright END OF THE SEASON, SALE, CLEARANCE, or STORE CLOSING signs, you can't help yourself! so i've been making the rounds at the $5 H&M sales, 60% off Gap sales, and 30% off Aldo sales! and by making the rounds i mean: selecting pieces, debating the 30 person fitting room line, feeling the guilt trip and run out. hey! i'm no longer a recessionista, i'm just another broke girl with her first job looking for a $5-$15 deal that won't hurt my savings. i've actually been wearing my Gap slim crop pants at least 3 times a week in these past 2 months. besides the fact that i love them. i need to save struggling through the desperate need of at least some easy to dress tops for work! ASAP!

“Good Taste/Bad Taste” at the MET

 #SUNDAYFUNDAY at the MET

Iris Apfel and Tavi Gevinson at the Metropolitan Museum of Art for a little panel about
“Good Taste/Bad Taste: The Evolution of Contemporary Chic”.

it was ok. i expected it to be a little better. Apfel was quite funny and Tavi captivated the audience with her eloquence.
i didn't like how the audience didn't have an open mic in order to ask questions, instead we had to gather around the stage like "zopilotes"
(Nicaraguan Spanish for vultures).

< - - - - - - - - - >

after the panel, I finally visited the “Schiaparelli and Prada: Impossible Conversations” exhibit.
it was revolutionary, rebellious, surreal, and free. i am a fan of Miuccia's work, ideals and thoughts but identified with Schiaparelli's designs. I am 'Waist Up' .

"I try to make women feel more powerful without losing their femininity" - Miuccia Prada

"While the waist down is more basic, more grounded, its' about sex. it's about making love. it's about life. it's about giving birth" - Miuccia Prada

"Many men admire strong women, but they do not love them" - Elsa Schiaparelli
