I Want: À-la-Mexique by Spenglish

woooops it's been over a month. what can i say kids, i'm busy from 9-5, 5 days a week, and all i want to do when i get home is watch some good ol' tv. i'm probably talking to myself at this point but i saw this on Vogue Mexico's twitter yesterday and decided to post it on my blog.

get to know: À-la-Mexique

if it wasn't funny enough in english - here it is in spanish.

" À-la-Mexique " is a limited edition collaboration by Gabriel Rivera-Barranza ( a fashion and communications consultant in NY ) and t-shirt brand, Spenglish. the 4 t-shirt collection is made of the best and softest cotton, pima cotton and are priced at $50.

thinking about it..i think Shantall Lacayo met this guy and told me about his project.

cause since YSL dropped the SL i've been trying to get Shantall to do a Y Shantall Lacayo? t-shirt. ha! i guess he beat all the latinos to the punch.

so who's your alter ego? are you Coco Canales, Isidro San Lorenzo, Juan Pablo Gutiérrez or Alejando McReina?

the cool thing about this collaboration is that 10% of each t-shirt sold will benefit Project Paz, an initiative to promote peace in the city of Juárez.

ThrowBack: 80s Power Suit

ever heard of the term "power dressing"? it stems from the 1980s working woman who started hustlin' and dressin' to get ahead in the game....seen the movie, "Working Girl"? designers like Ralph Lauren, Giorgio Armani, Donna Karan and Anne Klein made it happen and the 80s woman splurged on sharp "matchy/mactchy" blazers, pantsuits or midi skirts, which eventually led to striped and softer power suits due to Madonna's "Blond Ambition" era and don't even get me started on Ally McBeal...a show my sister still watches! at this time, my sister was a newlywed and her whole team and company was all male (i remember because she had to babysit me and take me to work). her closet back then was jam packed with a colorful array of fuchsia  dark red, black, pin striped, gray, lily, purple, navy blue, light blue, olive green, cream, yellow, white, baby pink and many more power suits that differentiated her from the rest and lead her to bigger roles. till this day, she still has them (well not ALL of them) and I can tell she found them at Macy's.

little by little i've been vintage browsing her closet for blazers or adding tailored trousers to my everyday look and now, the whole look is making a comeback! except now in floral, bolder stripes, palm prints, animal print, all prints, and with shorts! simply wear a crisp white bottom down, button it up all the way, add a bow tie if you like, pintate la boca (literally: paint your mouth) as my mom says, throw on leopard or silver pumps, pick up your tote and don't forget your i-phone!

my favorite example of power dressing is Hillary Clinton, I saw the picture below over a month ago and thought, is power dressing really dead? So, I started cleaning up my interview look and felt a lot more confident. I felt a little too confident, that I started trying on blazers completely out of my budget around the Meatpacking district at DVF, Alice+Olivia and had a pricey but delicious lunch at Pastis.

So thank you, Bianca Jagger, YSL, Giorgio Armani, Hillary Clinton and Coco Chanel for the original crisp power suits but ... I'm kinda obsessed with the spunky, Jenna Lyons (J. Crew) working girl look.

But I'll never forget,

DRESS FOR THE JOB YOU WANT NOT THE JOB YOU HAVE.

My pink spiked flats by Unif. I bought them during Black Firday and I've probably worn them like 3 times since. i was gonna buy the black ones but they are always sold out. and i guess i was lucky too, cause since i've bought mine, they have been sold out. sorry.

Men, women, n kids love them jajajajja "look at those shoessss" "look mom pointy shoes!" - oh but my shoe-eating dog hates them, he actually runs away from them. lol

i usually wear them when i wanna make a statement. i can wear all black n surprise you with these.

MoodBoard: August 2011

I've been trying to post the most I can - I actually have a lot of ideas but when you back home (pack your two year Italian & New Yorker life in 3 suitcases) and are still trying to settle back into your third world - your mind goes crazy, culture shock perhaps?

Anyways, here's my August 2011 mood board influenced by my 2 favorite Resort 2012 looks, D&G's StarStruck Fall 2011 collection, paparazzi shots of what we will see in the following season of Gossip Girls, my Nicaraguan designer Shantall Lacayo, and 2 random prints - Middles Eastern/Central asian by Bokja and Fall's MUST HAVE Snake by YSL.

Now I am going to brag about Shantall - First of all, CONGRATULATIONS to my girl for debuting her amazing Fall/Winter 2011 collection "LATIDOS GREEN HEART" in Nicaragua and for appearing in Harper's Bazaar Argentina edition and CNN Español. Her latest collection can be best described as sensually mystic. Just think, walking through the undiscovered rainforests and rivers banks of Nicaragua and living an episode of the Discovery Channel's "I Survived" - you become the wet swampy leaves, mossy trees, and ferocious jaguar - you ARE nature, you ARE the animal. The collection is overwhelmed with high slits, seductive cuts, 'alligator spiky skin-like' details, dramatic draping, and Shantall's trademark pleats in diverse fabrics.

Shantall Lacayo's creations can be found at boutiques Portel Nous (Argentina) and Ponte Vecchio (Nicaragua) or at her atelier showrooms in both Argentina and Nicaragua.
